Research

  • My research investigates mechanisms of host–microbiota interactions and their contributions to disease. I particularly focus on the activation of the transcription factor peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR-γ) by the short-chain fatty acid butyrate, which supports gut homeostasis. Disruption of butyrate–PPAR-γ signaling is associated with disease, and defining these pathways may reveal novel therapeutic strategies to restore gut homeostasis and improve disease outcomes.
